On the beach

Dead horseshoe crabs everywhere. What are they doing wrong?

As voters in Denver decide whether to approve the Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission ballot initiative and voters in California decide whether to legalize pot (oh yes, and voters in South Carolina decide whether to elect the state’s first female governor), I’m checked into the Hilton Head Holiday Inn beachfront resort not voting on a damn thing.

Nor will I complain about how the elections are decided, so please save your breath.

My friend Michael Craig is on the island performing in the first of three consecutive shows he’ll do with SC Repertory Company through March of 2011. A working actor he, as always.

We took a bracing walk on the beach this afternoon and if I knew a marine biologist, I’d ask her why we saw so many dead horseshoe crabs along the way and whether it’s a seasonal thing or if maybe the crabs are at war or whatever. But I don’t think I’ve ever known a marine biologist, so I have nowhere to turn for answers.
