Jersey Lily

In 2008, I played Polonius in Temple's really quite good production of "Hamlet." These were my children, Opelia and Laertes. All our family photos look like this.

Yesterday, I accepted the role of Oscar Wilde in Temple Theatre’s March 2014 production of Sherlock Holmes and the Jersey Lily. By the time the show opens, it will have been two years and a month since my last appearance there as poker player Vinnie in The Odd Couple and my sixth at Temple overall.

I’d been feeling just a little bit stuck in a rut when the offer arrived, thinking maybe it was time for me to update my headshot and have a go at the group auditions. Maybe knock on a few regional doors.

Working in theatre on and off for 30 years has made me restless, I think. Not always, but periodically. There are times when I want to hop out of my carefully feathered nest and keep on hopping, not bothering to say goodbye, never looking back.
