A wisdom tooth extraction at the top of August, a root canal at the bottom, and a new crown scheduled for mid-September. X-rays and Novocain. Thousands of dollars. So continues my vigorous intercourse with the dental profession.

We’re experiencing some turbulence as we approach the 60th anniversary of our birth, ladies and gentlemen. Please return your seatbacks and trays to their full upright and locked positions.

But!

How nice it was this morning to spend time on the balcony with Miss Katz. She loves to watch the sky brighten (or maybe it’s the bats I can’t quite see), and I love to watch her watching … whatever it is. Then breakfast at Biscuit Head. Then reading by the falls after a leisurely lunch at Pomegranate.

Duly reminded of one’s mortality, one takes a renewed interest in simple pleasures, doesn’t one?
